There are many
parents who are not sure how hard to push their
children. Yes, parents want their children to
succeed; however, more than likely they have
heard that pushing your child is bad, or that
pushing your child is the right thing to do.
Pushing your child to succeed and to achieve can
be a great thing, but it is important that there
is a balance involved. Let’s take a look at the
pros of pushing your child, and the cons of
pushing your child too hard. |
Pros of
Pushing
Pushing your child can
actually bring about some excellent things, and the
following are a few of the pros of pushing your child to
achieve.
:: Good Education - First of
all pushing your child can help them make sure that they
get an excellent education. When you push your child to
achieve, they start taking learning importantly and they
will want to do well in school. Taking an active part in
your child’s education is important, and some gentle
pushing can be a great help.
:: Success in Life - The
right type of pushing can also help your child to be
successful in life; both now, and later in adulthood as
well. While they are young, you can push your child in a
positive way that will enable them to push themselves
later in life, which will result in being successful.
:: Happiness - The happiness
of your child is extremely important and pushing your
child can help to bring them happiness. First of all, it
shows that you care, and second, when you push your
child they will do things they are proud of and become
more confident, which will bring about happiness in
their life.
Cons of Pushing Too Hard
While pushing your child can
be a good thing, there are a variety of cons to pushing
your child too hard.
:: Resentment - One of the
first things you may notice if you are pushing your
child too hard is resentment. Your child will begin to
resent you for being so hard on them. They may even
start feeling like they can never be good enough for
you.
:: Overachiever - Pushing
your child too hard can also lead them to be an
overachiever and overactive as well. They will feel like
they always have to be better, and that they just have
to work harder and harder to please you. This can be
dangerous and can lead to a life of working too much,
which can be damaging to their mind and their health.
:: Anger - If you begin
pushing your child too hard, you may actually begin to
make your child angry with you. This can be detrimental
to the relationship between you and your child, so this
needs to be avoided.
The bottom line about
pushing your child is that it has to be done in the
right manner and in a balanced way. The right amount of
pushing can lead your child to do great things; however,
too much pushing can be harmful to your child and will
result in a rift between the two of you. Be sure that
when you push your child you do it in a balanced way
that will improve their life instead of causing
problems.
